Annual Accounts

Whilst Annual Accounts are required by law, our aim is to add value and provide quality reporting and information that you can use to improve your business.

We do not want you to see this as just another annual cost – this is an investment in valuable business information to be used by you to improve your business.

At Hanley & Co the aim is to provide you with a service which is both constructive and helpful rather than just a historic 'scorekeeping' exercise.

From October 2008 we have added a new piece of software which will produce a 3 page 'Financial Performance Review' to cover annual accounts for all limited company clients. (Sole Traders and Partnerships will be available next year).

We will prepare this additional report (free of charge) with each set of annual accounts, because we see this as a valuable tool to help our clients better understand (and hopefully act on) the information in their annual accounts.

Below is an extract from a sample review.  To see a full example report please click here

One of the key elements as part of our annual review is for us to identify areas where we can reduce your tax liability:

  • this may include pointing out additional items of expenditure that you will certainly have incurred but may have forgotten to claim.

  • it may include a change of accounting policy or treatment to comply with the latest possible methodology for accounts preparation

  • or it may involve a change in the structure of your business to minimise taxation liabilities now and in the future.

This is also a time to look at the key financial indicators in your business and how they may be effecting your long term objectives.

All accounts prepared are fully explained to you, in your language, with no 'accountant speak' and are accompanied by a full written report recording our comments on the figures and their meaning and tax implications.

All clients are given advice on improving their bookkeeping  and accounting systems each year with the specific intention of trying to reduce the amount of work our accountancy staff have to spend annually, on 'routine' work.

For many years we have been encouraging clients to keep their records in computerised format either by providing tailored spreadsheets or using software from market leader Sage.  We are one of the few local members of the Sage Accountants Club and have years of experience introducing Sage systems and training clients with the efficient use of this simple and effective software.

More recently we are introducing clients to our own new free 'online bookkeeping and accounting system' from winweb ... all you need to run your business.

Of course we also handle all the statutory requirements on your behalf:

  • Completion of Taxation Returns based on the accounts to HM Revenue & Customs

  • For limited companies, preparation of abbreviated accounts for submission to Companies House

To conclude - Annual Accounts are a statutory requirement for the majority of businesses however we are keen to ensure that all clients benefit from our proactive approach to the process, providing timely figures that clients can understand and use.

Probably my best business decision over all my near 30 years in business was to employ Hanley & Co as my company’s accountants." Clive Pimlott - ACP & D Ltd
