Our Services

We aim to build a
positive, understanding and long term relationship with all clients. At
the bottom of this page (here) is a full listing of all
the services we can offer but before that we think it is important that
clients and potential clients understand the way we provide these services!
Support for your Business
We consider that
our clients' success is partly a reflection of the quality of our
services.
We try to offer constructive
advice to all our clients and much of our time is spent
discussing with clients their problems, ideas, computer systems, raising finance
and banking arrangements etc.
Whilst we do not profess to be experts in all
areas, we do have vast experience and a network of specialist advisers to
provide guidance for most eventualities to all businesses. For our clients, we are here as advisers to be
called on, as and whenever necessary, for all of their financial needs and
queries, throughout the year.
Accountancy Service for all Small Businesses
The practice already provides an all
round accountancy
advisory service to a large number of existing clients; ranging from sole
proprietors and tradesmen through to family businesses and limited companies.
Fee levels and charges are competitive and are openly discussed with all
interested clients. New clients receive a free consultation and guidance on
their book-keeping, with an outline of the work required and a firm estimate of
fees. All clients are encouraged to keep in touch throughout the year for
ongoing advice and an up-to-date assessment of their financial and tax affairs.
Constructive Auditing and Accounts Preparation
The preparation of annual accounts and the
performance of a statutory audit (for larger limited companies and members clubs
etc) are often regarded as intrusions into the affairs of the business. At
Hanley & Co the aim is to provide a service which is both constructive and
helpful rather than just a historic 'scorekeeping' exercise. All
accounts prepared are fully explained to clients verbally and are
accompanied by a full written report to the client, provided to record our
comments on the figures and their meaning.
All clients are
given advice on improving their bookkeeping and accounting systems each year
with the specific intention of trying to reduce the amount of work our
accountancy staff have to spend each year, on 'routine' work. For many
years we have been encouraging clients to keep their records in computerised
format either by providing tailored spreadsheets or using Sage
software. More recently we are introducing clients to our new free 'online
bookkeeping and accounting system' powered by Winweb.
Assisting New Businesses
Hanley & Co are pleased to help clients set
up new businesses, whether they are modest start-ups, small limited companies or
major acquisitions. The practice handles all aspects of launching a new
business, including advice on financing, book-keeping, VAT registration and
company formation. Once under way, Hanley & Co can offer all routine business
services including book-keeping, VAT, payroll preparation, interim management
accounts and the submission of forms, returns and claims.
Advising Throughout the Year
Once their business is profitable, many
clients require advice on expansion. Through personal contact clients receive
expert guidance and assistance with the development of their business, helping
them to progress smoothly and successfully.
Minimising Taxation

Hanley & Co offers a complete range of
services to help minimise clients' personal and business tax liabilities and plan
for their
future.
The practice handles all aspects of business and company taxation, with
many matters being dealt with by the partner, who maintains an overall awareness
of all clients' business and personal needs.
The rules concerning Value Added Tax
become more complicated each year and the penalties for late registration or
even innocent errors can be crippling. The practice offers advice on all
technical aspects of VAT and help with inspections and enquiries.
Capital Gains
Tax, in theory, is a tax which is gradually disappearing. Despite this, when a
business is sold the tax bill may be substantial. However, many business people
wish to understand their CGT position and careful forward planning can often
completely eliminate any tax liability.
The need to reduce or eliminate
Inheritance Tax can be important, especially for business owners. Effective
planning can save money for beneficiaries and help preserve the family
business.
Hanley & Co have considerable experience dealing with
Tax Enquiries (investigations). With the wrong approach these enquiries can drag on for years
and settlement figures can escalate. The professional way is to adopt a
pro-active attitude to the enquiry, aiming to produce a clean bill of health or
a minimum acceptable settlement as quickly as possible.
Self Assessment
Naturally, Hanley & Co offer a comprehensive service
dealing with the Self Assessment regime.
With comprehensive practice software
from market leaders IRIS, we can handle clients’ Self Assessment Returns in a
professional, cost -effective and efficient manner. In fact, Hanley & Co were
one of the first firms of accountants in the country to file their clients' Self
Assessments directly into the Inland Revenue's computers using the 'electronic lodgement system'
ELS.
Looking Forward
Many businesses require projections,
business plans and cash flow forecasts. These are computerised and are finalised
in close co-operation with clients to ensure that their expectations are
translated into firm, realistic projected figures. For new businesses our
established links with local bank managers mean we can make introductions with
confidence.
Accountants You Can Talk To
Not all accountants are the same. Hanley &
Co are an enthusiastic firm with approachable and knowledgeable staff, who have
years of experience dealing with small businesses and limited companies. The
majority of new clients come by recommendation and the practice always welcomes
new work of any type. Hanley & Co succeed because they are genuinely interested
and assist clients by giving positive advice and opinions and do not confine
their work to a simple review of last year's figures.
